Traveling with kids can be rather hard, especially, if it’s your vacation and you are planning a very long trip to some exotic location. There are few things you should know to have less stress and more fun because traveling with kids is not that easy (I can speak for myself because I just came back from Singapore with my husband and two kids!). So, here is what I’ve learned!
First of all, make a list of everything you will need and divide it in two three parts – list of critical items (medicine/etc), list of comfort items and list of items that may be needed but not as important. You have to do this in advance because you won’t be able to remember everything you need to take with you right on the fly. So keep this list with you and keep adding or removing items as you plan your vacation.
Second thing – find out as much as possible about local customs, place where you will be staying, what services and amenities it includes. Most importantly, check if all those services are free because trust me, it can be shockingly expensive to find out that some trivial things like part time maid in Singapore can cost you a lot if you do not book it in advance. Same goes with cleaning. We did not stay in hotel because it was ridiculously expensive – about 2000$ for a night (we had to book suite to have separate rooms and decent beds for kids) so we went with the renting condos. Surprisingly cheaper and much better! But, you have to check in advance what services are included. As I wrote, we had to hire maid but we also needed laundry services because they were not included in standard package. So, we found very good part time cleaner service in Singapore – http://www.parttimecleaner.com.sg/. Ohh, off I went with rambling about laundry. You might think its not important but better be prepared than find yourself cleaning dishes and doing laundry while on vacation… and in Singapore! So, be prepared.
Finally – if you are flying more than 8 hours, it is way better to fly in first class. Trust me, you can save on hotels and better stay in cheaper place but fly with comfort because you don’t want to end up tired, kids irritated and crying, bags and all and your husband with hangover because he had to drink to get some sleep while on the airplane. So, fly with comfort! Secret is, if you book well in advance, prices are not that bad. There are plenty online sites where you can get very good deal. I booked our flight six months in advance and it was only half more expensive than economy seats. Seriously, look for special deals and do it well in advance.
Phew. I hope enough rambling, and hope you will learn from my mistakes and do everything right!
But then again, trust me, you should have seen look on the kids faces when they saw white tiger swimming. Was so cute and adorable! Anyway, stay tuned and wait for next updates!
